A misbehaving horse can be irritating and potentially dangerous. At DOUBLE C HORSEMANSHIP & TRAINING, we include a considerable amount of groundwork in our horse training program. We prepare a young horse to ride and work through problems on the ground before we start riding. Our instruction includes:
- Teaching a horse how to lunge.
- Working over an obstacle.
- Teaching other basic exercises like round pinning, basic desensitizing, yielding, four quarters, and flexing.
Step by Step
Horses don't inherently know how to act when someone climbs on them to ride. They have to learn how to respond to commands as part of communicating with the rider.
To enhance horse behavior, we stress walking, trotting, and loping; and we include vertical and lateral movements as part of our excessive training. Additionally, we take horses down many different types of trails and to other ranches so that they learn how to be confident and relaxed in new situations.
